We were flying the whole night with 7-8+ kn. Today’s etmal was record breaking 209 nm! Can you believe that?
I couldn’t..! and after checking the charts and quickly adding up the etmals since departure comparing it to our position there was a mistake of about 200nm. That means my instruments are showing wrong numbers.
Its not that were not fast.. We are! But my log must count wrong for any reason..
We logged around 900 nm since departure in honolulu 6 1/2 days ago. That will probably make 1000 nm per week tomorrow morning. That’s an awesome distance within one week! And its kind of upwind. We’re still heading around 60 degree to the wind (aparent). Haven’t tacked since we left Honolulu.
But where is the mistake coming from. The speed tends to be right as my b&g instruments, open cpn and navionics on my phone show similar numbers..
I don’t know. I’ll have a close look at it now..
Because of the interferences on the vhf yesterday I went on deck quite often last night to check for any lights but couldn’t find any. I guess we passed each other in around 30-40 + miles distance. And there are no more noises coming from my radio today. But its better to be on deck one time to often than the other way around..
I don’t wanna see any other ships out here anyway.
It’s getting noticeable colder.. this morning we were barely making the 20 degree C mark and running around without a shirt lies in the past. Its still OK with shorts and T-shirt but probably just for another day or two.
It feels good to be out here. Sometimes I still can’t really believe that I’m here, alone, in the middle of the north pacific and going North but.. I love it!
I must be just west of the garbage patch right now. Nothing to see yet. But if my Information are right I’m passing it with over 240 miles to the west. In on 159 W and the patch should be not more than 155 W..? We’ll sea..
