last cactus before the boarder.. it was huge!!

The tarp was blown in peaces by the hurrican ODILE which passed guaymas in around 250 km distance. Nothing else broke! Glad we are!

But, dust was blown everywhere, even when we had taped all gaps and holes.

Rebecca jumped into the fridge to clean it, and by that broke the thermostat.

Jack gave us a dirty and old barbecue. Rebecca spend a couple hours with it and afterwards it looks NEW!! Thanks Jack!

Undoing the teak decking was hard work and took me 4 days to remove it completely.

after a couple days of cleaning we started undoing the teak deck. most of the teak panels were loose but it came out in peaces only. it was sanded down to around 3mm and got no strenght left at all.

under the teak was a layer of Sikaflex. It needed to be removed as well. First i scraped it down as good as I could, the rest must be sanded down.

this is the reason for water coming into the boat. Thousands of screws fixed the old teak deck. We unscrewed 90 percent, the rest broke or didn´t move at all so we grinded them down.

Thanks Giving - Pottluck party. Everyone brings a little food and we share it all. That gives everybody the change to get some different food.

Snow in Guaymas! Must be the first recorded one ever?? After we sanded the whole deck with a grinder and 36 grain sandpaper anything was covered with light grey dust. Itchy fiberglas dust!!

Werner, our frindly goast, helped us sanding the deck. He left Hamburg more than 40 years ago.

Now we have a white boat.

in the meanwhile we took the booms down and Rebecca started sanding them. The first one - the mizzen boom - looks quite new when finally sanded!

We ordered a big crane to pull our masts. This was a very exciting moment for us. We had never ever pulled masts like this before, but with the help of our friendly neighbors we did well and nothing broke.

Now we are a Motorboat!?

after we did some test drills we found the core wet almost everywhere we tested. So we opened the first part right in front of the boat-entrance. And it was totally wet inside the wooden core. Even after months of drying out in Guaymas sunny and dry weather the water still sits inside it. The Deck is made out of a sandwich fiberglass-wood-fiberglas construction. the thousands screws from the teak deck let water into the core and it rotted the wood. So it delaminated and lost its strenght. We saw it flexing by walking over it and hoped that there will be only a few parts wich needed to be replaced.

We cut the top layer of fibreglas, digged the old wood out, scraped the inner side of the bottom fiberglas layer and sanded the surface to get better bond. Now we´ll let it dry and will close it afterwards with new plywood. The top layer of fiberglass will be cleaned and sanded as well. Then we epoxy it down where it used to be.

Ok the work is done. Sun, please try it out quickly!!

Rebecca fooled you into thinking she was cleaning the fridge???? It looks to me as if she was taking a nap.
