Ahoi,
I left Hanalei at 8:30 this morning and hoisted one sail after the other until I had all sails up. The wind was moderate with around 10 kn from NE. The mainsail I left in 2nd reef but all other sails were fully hoisted. Means Genua, staysail, mainsail and mizzensail are up.
I did around 5-6 kn depending on some gusts passing me.
Wonderful sailing with around 55 degree AWA (apparent wind angle). The telltales I put in work very good and I can trim the boat way better now.
At around noon I reduced the Genua after the wind picked up to 18kn.
After a while I smelled diesel and found the stb tank leaking diesel. Probably overfilled and heeling over with 25 degree let the fuel drip out of the inside filling stud. I started the engine and used the stb tank while retuning to the port tank. An hour later the dripping stopped and I changed the return to stb to not overfill the port tank too. I wanted to use some more fuel to make a little spare room in the tank and killed the engine at 4:30 pm. Now I’m back to wonderful sailing and do 7-8 knots 45 AWA.!! Great.
The sun is shining and I can still see the other Sailboat windward to stb.
After an unspectacular sunset behind big dark clouds day 1 is over and I prepare for the night..
Was a good day and I’m happy out here..
Aloha

Salty hugs..
